Capt. Simisola is the pilot who averted the near tragedy on Air Peace when her plane Airpeace Boeing 737 landing gear collapses after dropping 30 ft and shortly before crash-landing at Lagos Airport on July 23, 2019.

Aviation Herald reported that sequel to the landing, the aircraft, which entered service with Air Peace in May 2015 suffered a hard landing, causing both nose wheels to separate from the nose gear strut, after the hero pilot had noticed sudden weather change when approaching Lagos and demanded to land on the International runway as it was longer and wider than the domestic runway to avert a crash.

The aircraft, which was carrying 133 passengers and six crew members on board, was on approach to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos from Port Harcourt.  But Despite the damage to the aircraft and to the runway, all passengers and crew members were reported to be safe, although one person sustained a minor injury.

The Pilot in Charge, Captain Simisola Ajibola  was praised by Air Peace and the passengers of the plane for her decision to land the plane on the International runway instead of the domestic runway when she notice the sudden weather change.

Her decision did save lives and averted more damage to the Air peace Property, her heroics can be compared to the  “Miracle on the Hudson“,  a US Airways Flight 1549, that crash landed in the Hudson River off Midtown Manhattan shortly after take- off on January 15, 2009.  It was reported that Airbus A320 on a flight from New York City’s LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte, North Carolina, struck a flock of birds shortly after take-off, causing the plane to loose all engine power. The Pilot Chesley Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles who were describe as the flight  heroes were unable to reach any airport for an emergency landing, so they had to guide the plane to an emergency landing in the Hudson River off Midtown Manhattan in which all all 155 people on board were rescued by nearby boats, with only a few serious injuries.

This water landing of a powerless jetliner became known as the “Miracle on the Hudson“.
