To help the small and medium scale business in the Post Covid 19 era, the Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment (Department of Weights and Measures) recently organized a sensitization workshop for stakeholders on the theme: Effect of weight and measures regulatory activities during COVID-19 and how to restore confidence on trade.

The workshop which was

part of COVID-19  economic recovery initiatives organized to enlighten stakeholders and the entire populace on the effect of weights and measures regulatory activities during the  era and how to restore  confidence in trade.

The workshop which was held at IPMAN secretariat, Atiku Abubakar way, Uyo had in attendance representatives of different businesses using  weights and measures in business dealings such as IPMAN, cooking gas sellers, petroleum and gas dealers etc.

Speaking at the workshop, the keynote speaker,  Assistant Director  (training) Department of Weights and Measures, Ogheneruemu Okerhe said it is important to enlighten people to use just measurement and equipment for trading. He also emphasized the need to engage all stakeholders to make sure that mandatory standard and requirements are adhered to at all times to foster trust and integrity.

Mr Okerhe stated that the Federal Government in conjunction with the ministry is creating an avenue for small and medium scale entrepreneurs to access some materials as form of palliatives to sustain their business as part of COVID-19  sustainability plan.

Also speaking at the event,  South South Zonal Director, Mr. Emmanuel Ebukanson said weights and measures have so much functions and urged businesses to be fair and just in their dealings with customers in every business done.

While talking to our news men, one of the participants representing the oil and Gas sector, Mr Ekanem commended the organizer of the program according to him, the workshop was quite rewarding and timely as well. It settles most of the pressing questions that has been bothering on some actions taken by the ministry. He also urged the ministry to consider organizing the workshop on regular basis.

In response, Mr. Ebukanson said the ministry will continue the sensitization workshop in all the states of the federation.
