Coronavirus Virus has come to stay, but all hands must be on deck to make sure the Virus doesn’t stay close to us. As one of the measure to curb the spread of the virus,the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal has ordered that anyone caught in public within this period without wearing facemasks will be arrested and prosecuted immediately, be it a pedestrian, passenger, driver, congregation, seller, buyer and other persons found in public without facemasks.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner of police and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Frederick Nnudam advice residents of Akwa Ibom to always observe the Covid 19 precautions and wear their facemasks in public places and follow other safety measures put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

the State Command will follow the quarantine Restriction of Movement Regulation law 2020 in Paragraph 12 (1) which states that “the use of facemask by all persons in public places is hereby made mandatory” in its renewed determination to enforce the provisions of the reaffirms that wearing of facemask by all persons in public places will be vigorously enforced.

Paragraph 12(2) provides a fine of ten thousand naira (N10, 000.00) for a first time offender or community service for seven (7) days and a fine of twenty thousand naira (N20,000.00) for a second time and subsequent offender or community service for fourteen (14) days.
