The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested 121 persons for failing to wear facemasks in public places within the State.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Frederick Nnudam said this on Friday, July 3 in a statement issued out to newsmen.
He informed that the suspects would be arraigned in special courts established in the three senatorial districts of the State to serve as a deterrent to others and called on people to always wear facemasks in public places, adding that the Police would not relent in arresting violators.
The statement reads: “the Akwa Ibom State Police Command in a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the State, in line with the provisions of the Quarantine and Restriction of Movement (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2020, has arrested one hundred and twenty-one (121) violators.
“The arrested offenders would be arraigned in the special courts established in the three Senatorial Districts to serve as a deterrent to others.
“Consequently, the Police Command enjoins the good people of the State to always use facemasks in public places as the Command will continue to arrest and prosecute violators.”
