Nigeria’s Super Eagles hosted the Squirrels of Benin Republic in the opening Group L match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.
The game which ended in a dramatic style saw Nigeria came from behind to win the encounter after conceding an early goal in the 3rd minute of the encounter thanks to goals from Lille striker Victor Osimhen and kalu
Victor Osimhen had put Nigeria back into the game when he scored the equalising goal before halftime to restore parity before Samuel Kalu sealed the victory for the team in the 65th minute.
Following the win, Nigeria are now top of the group, taking advantage of a 1-1 draw played in the encounter between Sierra Leon and Lesotho in Freetown.
Elsewhere, Guinea Bissau defeated Eswatini 3-0 in Group I, Burandi were beaten by Central African Republic in E, the game ended in 2-0. South Africa suffered an early defeat as they were beaten by Malawi with just a goal in Group B.
Elsewhere, Cameroon and Cape Verde played out a stalemate in Group F the game ended 0-0, Namibia defeated Chad 2-1 in Group A.
