Authorities of Akwa Ibom State University has sacked eight lecturers for allegedly being culpable of sexual assault to buttress the seriousness of the institution against sexual harassment in any form.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Eno Ibanga made confirmed this development on Tuesday November 5 in a media interaction. Prof. Ibanga also disclosed that 10 students suspected to be members of secret cultist groups that disturb the peace of the university have also been rusticated from the institution. The suspected student cultist were reported to be have been arrested while on their way to an initiation ceremony. The were caught with various fetish items including a coffin, red cloths and axes.
Speaking further on the case of the lecturers, the Vice Chancellor told newsmen that the dismissal was inevitable in order to maintain the good image and keep sanity in the institution.
He said, “The appointment of 8 lecturers have been terminated by the university bordering on sexual harassment and extortion.
“As we speak, a notorious one is on ground and the person will not go scout free.
“Some of the cases are still in court. I swore to run an institution that can stand the test of time. We are doing the best to bring sanity to the institution.”
