Unknown gunmen, on Saturday evening, attacked Mr Harrison Essien, a News Editor with Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC).

The journalist was attacked at the Transmitting Station of the state-owned media outfit, located at Ntak Inyang.

A staff of AKBC, Akaninyene Ukpong told our reporter that the News Editor was on his way home when he was accosted by about four gunmen who shot him before taking away his laptop, cash and other belongings.

“He was robbed at the entrance of the Station, after he produced Society News at 8:30pm yesterday night”, he said.

Our source who revealed that Mr Essien sustained serious degree of injuries leading to loss of blood, decried the unsecured state of the broadcasting firm and called for help from security agencies.

When contacted on phone, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko Macdon, claimed he was unaware of the incident, but however said his men will swing into action.
