A 300 Level Student of the Department of Early Childhood Education in the University of Uyo, Miss Helen, has died, after reportedly having convulsion at her Hostel on Wednesday night.

Convulsion is a medical condition where body muscles contract and relax rapidly and repeatedly, often caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain, resulting in uncontrolled body actions like loss of bladder control, sudden shaking of entire body and temporary cessation of breathing, etc.

Vice President of Institution’s Students’ Union Government (SUG), Miss Obongodu Samuel, confirmed the sad incident on Thursday Morning.

A source who craved anonymity, also told The New Vision Correspondent, that the deceased, after developing complications, was however rushed to the University Medical Centre, where she was confirmed dead.

Meanwhile, the Students’ Union Government of the institution, in a message issued by its Vice President, Miss Obongodu Samuel, has sympathised with the deceased
family.

“I wish to empathize with the students in the University of Uyo on the sudden death of our dear colleague today. I pray for the family of the diseased to have the fortitude to bear the loss.

“I sincerely pray for good health and God’s grace upon us all during this difficult moment. My heart truly bleeds”, parts of the message read.

The Union also prayed God to put a stop to incessant deaths among students of the University.
